Math Olympiad

J2

This course develops advanced mathematical thinking through problem-solving, logical reasoning, and analytical strategies. Pupils will explore a variety of non-routine problems involving patterns, number relationships, arithmetic shortcuts, model drawing, and mathematical puzzles. Through systematic approaches and critical thinking, pupils will strengthen their ability to solve challenging questions commonly found in higher-order mathematics and competition-style assessments.

Objectives

  • Apply a range of problem-solving strategies to solve non-routine mathematical problems
  • Recognise patterns and relationships to make predictions and solve complex questions
  • Use model drawing, comparison, replacement, and working backwards techniques effectively
  • Solve word problems involving age, counting, speed, distance, and number relationships
  • Apply logical reasoning to analyse and solve mathematical puzzles and cryptarithms
